If you finished the line with seasons of love, I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. The correct answer is big pots of mums.
525,600. That’s the approximate number of mums I have moved from one section of the greenhouse to another during the last two days at work. The vast majority of these mums have been in gigantic pots weighing 15-20 pounds each.
Okay, so maybe 525,600 is a gross exaggeration. Ten thousand is probably more in the ball park. And to kill the time during this process (when I wasn’t complaining) I was singing “Seasons of Love” to myself, but of course I changed all the words to make the lyrics more mum/greenhouse appropriate. But I’ll spare you all from that insanity…
The other thing I did to kill time today was an extensive exercise in mental math. As we move all the plants around (which word on the street is that if I haven’t gotten laid off by next week, I’m going to have to move all the mums to yet another place inthe greenhouse)…anyway…as we move junk, we have to keep track of it. We make little tally marks for each cart we fill up and then at the end, we do the math.
So the crack smoker I was working with “did the math” for two colors of mums. I’ll tell you the numbers she was working with and you can play along.
- There are 24 trays of mums on 1 cart. How many trays of each shade of red did we move?
- Red Helens = 5 carts + 12 trays
- Foxy Red Natashas = 5 carts + 14 trays
If you said 180 trays of Red Helen and 110 trays of Foxy Natasha, you are living in the same alternate reality as the woman we have fondly dubbed Oscar.
I spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out where Oscar pulled those numbers out of. It just makes no sense at all…but I won’t complain too much because trying to figure out the method to my coworkers’ madness is usually the best way to keep myself mentally occupied at work.
And yes, Foxy Red Natasha and Red Helen are real colors. So are Sunny Yellow Ursula and Pink Festive Gretchen.
Why not a Foxy Red (H)ellen?
Why not! Actually, the first time I had to move the mums (3 weeks ago) we gave all the colors somewhat scandalous new names.
those names sound sassy!:)
